Delete your account
You can delete your Counter account in the app or by email. This page explains both ways, what is deleted and what stays.
In the app
Open Settings, go to the Account section and tap Delete account. Confirm with Delete my account. The deletion happens immediately and cannot be undone, and you are signed out afterwards. If it fails, the app shows an error and you can try again or contact us.
If you want a copy of your data first, use Export my data in Settings before you delete your account.
By email
Send a deletion request to mail@compcounter.app from the email address of your account. We confirm by email once your account is deleted. We respond to requests within 30 days.
What is deleted
When your account is deleted, we remove:
- Your login details, including your email address.
- Your profile: display name, username, bio, date of birth and social links.
- Your counter memberships, votes, strikes, awards and reactions.
- Your friendships, blocks and counter invites.
- Your push notification tokens and notification settings.
- Your profile photo and any data export files you created.
What stays
- Messages: messages you sent stay visible to the other participants of the conversation, without your name and profile, until they are deleted automatically 30 days after they were sent. See Section 4 of the privacy policy.
- Submissions and reports: your counter submissions and the reports you filed stay without your name. Photos attached to a submission are deleted automatically after its voting window closes, as described in the privacy policy.
- Counters you own: they stay for their other members, including a counter picture you set. Ownership passes to another member automatically: first to the longest-standing admin, otherwise to the longest-standing member. If you are the only member, the counter ends.
- Activity history: entries in a counter's activity history about member removals and role changes keep the name the member had at that time.
Analytics and crash reports
Deleting your account does not contact our analytics or crash reporting providers. Analytics data (PostHog) is linked to a random ID, not to your name or email address, and expires after 12 months. Crash reports (Sentry) expire after 90 days.
To have analytics data deleted sooner, email us and include your account ID. You can find it as user_id in the file created by Export my data in Settings. Do this before you delete your account.
